Paul Lambert felt Ipswich Town got their just rewards with Jack Lankester's late winner against Shrewsbury Town
Ipswich Town manager Paul Lambert felt Saturday's last-gasp home victory against Shrewsbury Town was no less than they deserved.
The Blues fell behind to a fourth-minute penalty from Oliver Norburn after a foul from Mark McGuinness, but an an Ethan Ebanks-Landell own goal from Keenan Bennetts' teasing cross and Jack Lankester's 96th-minute header saw the hosts complete a dramatic second-half comeback.
"It's hard when you go behind early and they sat very deep, particularly in the second half," the Town boss told iFollow Ipswich.
"We had to be patient to break it down. Some things I was happy with, some things I wasn't - but I'm happy that we kept going.
"Like I said it's hard when a team plays deep and tries to get you on the counter - but we played some good stuff just sometimes need to move the ball a little bit quicker.
"The subs made a good impact. Jack (Lankester) came on early and Keanan (Bennetts) did well. Nors (James Norwood) looked like he's getting back to his old self too.
"I'm very happy with the win. Could we play better? Yeah. But all credit to the guys because they were patient and kept prodding away and got their reward."
Jack Lankester said it was a case of being in the right place at the right time as he headed Town to victory in the 96th minute.
Alan Judge's strike was palmed away by Harry Burgoyne, but the former Bury Town loanee, who hails from Fornham St Martin, near Bury St Edmunds, lunged forward and headed into the corner from close range to snatch a 2-1 victory.
"It's always nice to get a late winner and I think the boys showed good determination today," Lankester told iFollow Ipswich.
"When you concede early it makes things hard so it takes characters to get back in it.
"Patience is key and things worked out in the end. I love getting goals but most importantly want them to come in games that we win.
"It was a great moment - I was in the right place at the right time. We will look at areas to improve but it was a big game to win and it gives us a good start to the week with two more tough home games coming up."
Brett McGavin had come into the starting XI in place of the suspended Andre Dozzell, whilst Freddie Sears and Jon Nolan were also back in from the off.
But midfielders Nolan and Teddy Bishop were both forced off injured, with the extent of their problems still to be confirmed.
The three points saw Town remain in third position in the Sky Bet League One table but draw level on points with second-placed Peterborough United and to within two points of leaders Hull City.
Ipswich host Grant McCann's Hull at Portman Road tomorrow night (7pm).
