Ipswich Town sign Chiedozie Ogbene from Luton Town on four-year deal

Ipswich Town have completed the signing of Chiedozie Ogbene from Luton Town, which sees the winger sign a four-year deal at Portman Road.

The 27-year-old Republic of Ireland international, who becomes the Blues’ 12th addition of the summer, made 30 appearances for the Hatters in the Premier League last term, in which he contributed four goals and one assist.

SuffolkNews’ media partners TWTD understand the deal is worth £8 million. Ogbene will wear the number 21 shirt this season and could feature in tonight’s second-round Carabao Cup clash at AFC Wimbledon (7.45pm).

“I’m very excited and feel lucky to have this opportunity to play in the Premier League again,” he said, speaking to TownTV.

“I’ve had very positive chats with the manager and for someone to believe in me that I could play at this level again means a lot to me and my family.

“I know what he wants from me and the role I will play and I’m here to be a positive addition to the squad as we look to achieve our goals.

“It’s an opportunity I had to grab with both hands and I can’t wait to be involved as soon as possible.”

Nigerian-born Ogbene, whose arrival has taken Town’s reported summer spending past the £100 million mark, joined Luton following four seasons at Rotherham United for whom he scored 14 times for in 136 games.

The former Cork City wideman, who started all three of Luton’s Sky Bet Championships matches this term, has also plied his trade for Brentford, Exeter City and Limerick.
