Ipswich Town player Ashley Young to return to squad for Championship clash against Blackburn Rovers at Ewood Park

Ashley Young will return to the Ipswich Town squad for this weekend’s trip to Blackburn Rovers.

The 40-year-old missed last Friday’s 5-0 demolition of Sheffield United at Portman Road with a ‘little bit of an issue’.

However, boss Kieran McKenna has revealed that the former Manchester United and England player has been back in training and will be available for selection at Ewood Park.

McKenna said: “Ashley’s doing better, he was just managing a little bit of an issue but he’s trained with the group this week, so he’ll be available this weekend.”

McKenna also revealed that the whole first team squad have been training this week apart from Wes Burns, who is making good progress in his recovery from the ACL injury that he suffered away at Liverpool in January.

“He’s coming on well. Not training with the group yet, but working outside regularly, maybe not quite every day, but quite a few days a week now out on the grass with his boots on doing football movements and progressing well,” McKenna said of the Wales international.

“I think all being well, maybe he can start joining in with some team training after the next international break, which would be a big boost for him and for us. All going in the right direction.”
