Birchwood Primary School in Martlesham Heath in the running to win new playground in Sistema recycling contest
A Suffolk primary school has called on the public to help them win a new playground from a national recycling campaign.
Birchwood Primary School, in Martlesham Heath, has urged people living in the area in and around Ipswich to donate used plastic food containers or bottles.
This comes as part of a nationwide recycling contest held by food storage firm Sistema, alongside TerraCycle.
If successful the school would win a playground with a frame made from 100 per cent recycled waste.
These can be placed into a collection box just inside the school’s main gate between 8am and 4pm Monday through Friday.
These will then be recycled by the firm – and the school that recycles the most will secure the prize.
Schools will be updated on their progress once per month.
Pippa Wake, head of school at Birchwood, said the school was thrilled to be taking part.
Mrs Wake added: “This really is a great initiative that will not only help our school but also our environment, whilst educating our pupils and the local community on the importance of recycling.”
