Bid to turn house in Lakenheath into children's home backed by West Suffolk Council planners
A bid to turn a residential house into a children's home has been backed by planners.
Melisa Chikanda sought permission from West Suffolk Council to turn The Retreat, in Wings Road Close, Lakenheath, into a children's home.
The planning officer's report said the home would provide care for two children, between the ages of eight and 17, who have experienced significant trauma.
Ms Chikanda looked to address the underlying emotional need of the children as well as support social, mental and academic progression.
Lakeanheath Parish Council supported the plans.
A design and access statement submitted alongside the application said the area had infrastructure, amenities, and community resources capable of supporting a stable and nurturing environment for children in care.
It said: "The home will provide a safe and supportive environment for children who require care, supervision, and structured living arrangements."
The change would require at least two members of staff who would operate in shifts.
Due to its proximity to RAF Lakenheath, the Ministry of Defence, which had no objection to the plans, warned planes could fly over the home.
Noise levels inside the home are anticipated to be within guidelines, according to a noise assessment.
