Brandon and Mildenhall firefighters rescue child trapped under slide at park near Lakenheath Pavilion

Firefighters rescued a girl who was trapped under a slide at a playground in Suffolk.

Crews from Brandon and Mildenhall were called to the park at Lakenheath Pavilion in Eriswell Road yesterday at about noon.

The 11-year-old girl was stuck at the waist in a crawling-hole underneath the slide and despite best efforts to pull her free, she was firmly wedged in the tight space.

Firefighters had to unbolt and cut part of the slide to release her and she was freed unharmed after about 20 minutes.

Lakenheath Parish Council, which manages the park, confirmed the playground remains open and that the part of the slide that was cut has not affected the safety of the slide.

A council spokesperson said: “There are no sharp edges or jagged parts of the slide sticking out or anything like that.

“We’re just so grateful for the fire service’s efforts, they did an amazing job.”

An ambulance was also called to the park but was not needed.
