Post Office reopens at new home in Lakenheath High Street

A Post Office which was closed for more than a year has reopened at a new home in a village high street.

The Post Office inside Lakenheath News at 65a High Street welcomed customers for the first time at 1pm yesterday, after shutting at 42 High Street in February last year due to the resignation of the postmistress.

The branch will be open between 9am to 5pm from Monday to Friday and 9am to noon on a Saturday, providing 43 hours of Post Office service a week.

It is an additional 18 hours of Post Office service per week.

Post Office Ltd said similar products and services will still be available as before, including cash withdrawals and deposits, and cheque deposits, and customers will be able to pay bills and send packages.

Travel insurance and vehicle tax services will not be available.

Cllr Nick Smith, vice chair of Lakenheath Parish Council, said residents are delighted with the return of the branch.

“It’s been a long old haul and it’s taken a great deal of effort to achieve this,” he said.

“The feedback that we’ve got from the parishioners and villagers has been great and they can’t believe it.

“It’s hugely positive news for the village and it will definitely give it a bit of a boost.

“It shows Lakenheath is still an attractive place to be and I know the people here will take full advantage of it so let’s support it as much as we can.”

Cllr Smith added that Lakenheath Parish Council worked with Post Office Ltd and Lakenheath News, as well as West Suffolk Council, to get the branch sorted.
