A ground-breaking textile exhibition, Threads through Revelation, has been launched at Southwell Minster.

The Dean of Southwell, the Very Rev Nicola Sullivan welcomed Jacqui Parkinson, whose work is on display in the cathedral until November 30.

The Bishop of Southwell and Nottingham, the Right Rev Paul Williams; the Lord Lieutenant of Nottinghamshire, Sir John and Lady Peace and Nottinghamshire County Council chairman, Sue Saddington were among the official dignitaries at the launch.

They — along with members of the public — viewed the 14 large panels, which are based on the last book of the Bible, Revelation.

Jacqui makes her panels from bedsheets, with a combination of painted dyes, multi-layered silks and thousands of stitches, to bring the characters and images from the visionary story alive.

The exhibition is thought to be the largest by a single textile artist in the world, and the minster is the last stop of its extensive UK cathedral tour.
