Lowestoft ranked most budget friendly seaside destination for 2024 by Compare The Market




A coastal Suffolk town has been ranked as the ‘cheapest seaside spot for summer 2024’.

New rankings from Compare The Market crowned Lowestoft as the most budget-friendly popular seaside destination.

The UK’s most easterly settlement beat out favourites including Great Yarmouth, Margate and Eastbourne.

Destinations were ranked by a range of factors including the average cost of a meal, average cost of parking for six hours, average cost of a pint of beer and average hours of sunshine in summer.

Compare The Market said Lowestoft scored relatively low costs across the board, with the cheapest average meal (£5.50) and parking (£3.15) among the top 10.

Including the whole of the UK, the only destination which could best the town’s affordable parking was Barry, in Wales, with £2.50.

Lowestoft also took joint third for average hours of sunshine with 9.7, alongside nearby Great Yarmouth.

Margate (£7.50), Bexhill (£10.00) and Eastbourne (£13.00) followed the Suffolk town as the destinations with the next best average meal costs.

Lowestoft did not fare so well in the beer department, being the most costly in the top 10 with an average £5.45 for a pint.

The best top 10 destination in this area was Margate (£3.18), which was followed by Bexhill, Eastbourne, Hastings, Folkestone, and Cleethorpes all on £4.54.

Lowestoft also took first place among the top 10 for the cheapest cup of coffee at £2.35.

Other destinations in the top 10 but not yet mentioned were Weymouth and Ramsgate.
