DIY SOS will no longer give Lowestoft’s fire station on Clifton Road a new lease of life

DIY SOS will no longer transform an old Suffolk building into a performing arts centre for people with learning difficulties, after the BBC pulled out of plans.

Lowestoft was looking forward to welcoming Nick Knowles and his team to renovate the crumbling fire station on Clifton Road.

DIY SOS had already put out a call on social media for volunteer tradespeople and suppliers to donate skills and materials for the building’s transformation.

The new performing arts centre would have been aimed mainly at people with learning difficulties. The show would have revealed the story a family whose son with Down’s Syndrome didn’t have many options when he finished school.

The son and his dad died within four months of each other, and the mum was recently diagnosed with cancer.
