Nine fire crews sent to tractor and field fire in Ashby near Lowestoft




Nine fire crews arrived to battle a blaze in Suffolk this afternoon.

Firefighters were called at about 1.40pm to a tractor on fire that had spread to a baler and field at Market Lane in Ashby near Lowestoft.

An assistant message was put out for more appliances as the fire had spread to about thirty acres of stubble and straw, with a water carrier also mobilised.

A further assistance message was sent out asking for an Unimog - an all terrain vehicle with a crane used to lift on and off ‘pods’ which are boxes full of specialist equipment.

Crews used four hose reels and small gear to extinguish the blaze.

Firefighters from Beccles, Lowestoft, Hethersett, Gorleston and Great Yarmouth stopped attending the incident at about 3.20pm.
