Plans for Tower Retail Park, Tower Road, Lowestoft, EV charging points given green light

Plans for new electric vehicle (EV) charging points at a coastal town retail park have been given the green light.

SSE Utility Solutions has been granted permission to construct 11 new EV charging bays in the Tower Retail Park car park, in Tower Road, Lowestoft.

Six charging upstands will be built to supply 10 parking spaces to the western edge of the car park, between Pizza Hut and Homebase, with another separate bay to the south of these.

East Suffolk Council also approved the construction of associated infrastructure for the charging points including substation, underground cabling, CCTV and bollards.

Cameras would be mounted around the area to provide surveillance of both the charging points and the wider car park.

The retail park has 158 spaces in total at present and a delegated report said the proposals would not have an impact on the overall provision of parking.

The substation will be built to the south of the car park for best practicality and to limit impacts on the character and landscape of the area.
