Lowestoft Police investigate spate of moped and motorcycle thefts
A major string of moped and small motorcycle thefts is being investigated in a Suffolk town.
This week, seven incidents of theft and attempted theft have been reported in Lowestoft and police are urging the public to report any suspicious activity.
Officers say they are ‘keeping an open mind’ as to whether the spate is linked to same person or group.
A list of the seven crimes, which all took place at night, are detailed below with a corresponding crime reference number.
The first incident saw an attempted theft of a moped on Sunday 14 in Cambridge Road. Ref: 37/20690/24.
The following day, a moped was stolen in Oxford Road before being abandoned in Park Road. Two teenage boys were arrested and released on bail until May 29. Ref: 37/20649/24
On Wednesday, a moped was stolen in Love Road. Ref: 37/21268/24.
Later that day, a moped was found in the bushes of Howley Garden play park with its registration plate removed. Ref: 37/21177/24
Today, three further incidents took place in the town including an attempted theft and damage of a Yamaha motorcycle in Church Road. CAD: 30
A Honda motorbike was found damaged near Kirkley Park Road. CAD: 64
And finally, a moped was stolen in Beaconsfield Road. CAD: 97
Anyone with information relating to the crimes is being asked to contact the police with the relevant crime reference or CAD number.
Officers are also urging moped and motorcycle owners to pay extra attention to the security of their vehicle by using a disc lock on the front wheel, securing the rear wheel with steel chains and a padlock and using bike covers to prevent immediate access to the controls and security features.
