Teenager Tay Morey avoids jail after hammer attack on man near Bitten Centre in Lowestoft
A teenager who hit a man over the head with a hammer in Lowestoft has avoided a prison centre.
Tay Morey, of Marine Parade in Lowestoft, who pleaded guilty to assault causing grevious bodily harm at an earlier hearing, was sentenced at Ipswich Crown Court on Monday.
The 18 year old was arrested in October 2019 after he cycled past and shouted at a man in his 50s outside the town's Bitten Centre.
Morey then got off his bike, pulled a hammer from his tracksuit pocket and hit the man on the head.
The victim suffered a suppressed skull fracture as a result.
Morey was sentenced to 18 months in a young offenders institute suspended for two years. He was also handed a two year non-contact restraining order.
