Lowestoft to celebrate 80 years since VE Day with live music and food and drink stalls




Lowestoft residents are being invited to a day of remembrance and celebration as the town prepares to mark the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II.

The main event will start at 3pm in Sparrows Nest Gardens on Thursday, May 8 with a variety of stalls, exhibitors and food and drink vendors.

Throughout the day, there will be a series of live performances, including the return of Suffolk Glenmoriston Pipe Band, London Brass Band, Sam and the Swingtones, Choir Rocks, Joyee Dee and more.

The Maritime Museum and RNPS Museum will be extending its opening hours on the day, while fish and chips will be on offer at Giardino Bar and Grill.

The event will conclude with the lighting of the beacon at 9.30pm.

The Victory in Europe Day celebrations are being organised by the town council and entry is free.
