Iniko the giraffe is set for a cross-county move from Africa Alive, near Lowestoft, to Banham Zoo, in Norfolk
A long-necked resident will be moving from a Suffolk zoo to Norfolk tomorrow.
Iniko the giraffe is set to leave Africa Alive, near Lowestoft, for a new home at Banham Zoo.
The move will mean an early start for all involved, as Iniko is due to leave the Kessingland site at 7am – although this could vary depending on how long it takes to get Iniko into the trailer.
Deborah Harris, animal manager at Banham Zoo, said: “We are so extremely excited and looking forward to the arrival of Iniko. We are hoping for a smooth move, keeping Iniko as happy and as less stressed as possible, with keepers and the animal team on hand to assist.
“It will be sad to see Iniko leave Africa Alive and the departure I’m sure will cause a sense of sadness for a little while, but this move is all about the future and the excitement of what’s to come.”
A firm called Cross Boarders is managing the move, helped by African Alive and Banham Zoo keepers along the way.
On arrival at Banham, Iniko will gradually be introduced to the zoo’s two other giraffes and settled into the new home.
