Housing association apologises after persistent fly-tipping in Shrub House Close, Beck Row, near Mildenhall, prompts serious concerns from residents
A housing association has apologised after persistent fly-tipping in a village prompted serious concerns from residents.
Chrystal Mason, 41, has lived in Shrub House Close, Beck Row, for more than five years.
Over the last few years, she has become increasingly worried as fly-tipping in the area has become an ongoing issue.
However, Flagship Housing, which owns 20 properties in the area, cleared the fly-tipping and said they will be monitoring it closely to prevent it happening again.
Chrystal, who has a six-year-old son, said: “I’m really grateful for what has been done but I am frustrated it's taken this long as my previous concerns were not addressed.
“When I moved in, the area was lovely but it has deteriorated as waste has been dumped regularly.
“This has severely impacted the quality of life for residents in this community and we should not have had to put up with it. There are even huge rats with a rat hotel that live under all the stuff which is sickening.
“It’s all disgusting and embarrassing to look at.”
Chrystal said a sofa has remained abandoned in Shrub House Close for more than three years.
Other waste that has been dumped includes a bird cage, wooden fence panels with nails, broken concrete slabs, garden waste, makeshift compost and more.
She said: “The fly-tipping not only poses health and safety risks but it creates an unsightly and hazardous environment.
“It’s hugely concerning to have things like rusty nails poking out of posts. I can’t let my boy out there.”
Another resident added: “It’s got very bad compared to when we first moved in a couple of years ago.
“It just looks a real mess.”
A Flagship spokesperson said they were clarifying ownership responsibilities to make sure the area is properly managed in the future.
They said: "We're sorry residents have had to put up with this for so long. Fly-tipping is antisocial and shouldn’t be tolerated.”
