Firefighters remain at Mildenhall Stadium in West Row overnight to battle huge workshop blaze




Firefighters have remained overnight at the scene of a massive blaze at a stadium workshop in a village.

The fire service and police were alerted to the incident at Mildenhall Stadium, in Hayland Drove, West Row, at about 5.30pm yesterday.

A police spokesperson said it was in a workshop at the stadium.

Multiple crews from Suffolk, Norfolk and Cambridgeshire attended the blaze, with the Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service log recording 29 appliances.

At 11.48pm, a Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said they were scaling down.

They said at its height eight fire engines from Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service and Cambridgeshire Fire & Rescue Service attended along with a turntable ladder, command unit and water carriers from Suffolk and Norfolk Fire & Rescue Service and RAF Mildenhall.

“Crews have worked hard to stop the fire spreading in arduous conditions and expect to remain on site for some hours to come,” they said.

The incident was under control by 3.39am and crews remain at the scene damping down and checking for hotspots.

The workshop is to the side of the stadium and contained tractors, forklifts and propane cylinders.
