Football match between Mildenhall businesses Safepac and Cameron Ventures Group raises £1,500 for Mildenhall Town youth team




A football match between two businesses in a Suffolk town has helped to raise £1,500 for its youth team.

More than 250 people watched Cameron Ventures Group come up against Safepac at Mildenhall Town’s Riverside Stadium on Friday evening.

Former darts world champion Keith Deller, who lives in Icklingham, managed the Cameron Ventures Group team while Richie Alderton was in charge of the Safepac side.

The match was a close one with Safepac 3-2 up until the 75th minute with Safepac 3-2 up, as the Cameron Ventures Group players decided to go for it, which came at a cost and resulted in a final 6-2 scoreline.

Brian Keane, director of the Cameron Hotel Collection, who owns The Riverside House Hotel in Mildenhall, said: “It went brilliantly.

“The youth team played a little match beforehand which helped the whole ethos and the whole event just worked really well with lots of support.

“If there are any other clubs in the area that want to raise money for their youth teams please get in touch as we’re happy to put a team out and organise something to encourage children to play football.”

A fee in the region of £1500 has gone towards Mildenhall Town Youth.

Youth manager Trevor Bennett said: “The evening was a total success in not only generating the funds but the camaraderie and enjoyment of everyone in the stadium was incredible.

“This has now started the ball rolling to become an event to look forward to more often as it showed the community spirit Mildenhall Town wants to create.”

A rematch between the two sides has been penned in for May 2025.

Off the back of Friday’s event, Cameron Ventures Group are facing a team from Lakenheath FC to raise funds for their youth side.

The game is on Friday, August 23 with free entry, a BBQ and a raffle on offer.
