Large group comes out to honour well-known Mildenhall figure Eric Peel

Nearly 100 people attended an event to honour a former Boys’ Brigade captain who was well-known in the Mildenhall area.

Eric Peel, who died aged 98 in July 2020, served as a captain in the Boys’ Brigade for 40 years from the early 1950s.

During that time, he combined his role as captain with being a deacon and church treasurer at Mildenhall Baptist Church, now known as King’s Church, where a memorial service was held for him on Saturday.

Peter Finnis, a lay pastor at the church, and who joined the Boys’ Brigade just before his 10th birthday when Eric was captain, said the service went ‘really well’ and it was good to catch up with Eric’s family.

“I think they felt this was very much a bit of a chance to move on in a sense,” he said.
