Plans for Post Office at new Morrisons Daily in Mildenhall scrapped as shop opens tomorrow at former McColl’s in Market Place

Plans for a Post Office in a Suffolk town centre have been scrapped as the opening date for a new shop is revealed.

Last week the first steps to convert the McColl’s store at 1-2 Market Place in Mildenhall were taken as a refurbishment began with Morrisons Daily signage displayed on the building.

The Morrisons Daily will welcome customers from tomorrow with the store open 6am to 10pm from Monday to Saturday and 7am to 10pm on a Sunday.

A spokesperson for the store said there were plans for a Post Office but it is no longer happening.

The Post Office in the Morrisons store in St John’s Close remains open as normal.

The Morrisons Daily, which will have a bakery and a coffee machine, features a new access button at the door to help people get into the shop.

The supervisor of the store said: “I’m looking forward to opening up and people will definitely notice a big difference.

“The store is going to be really nice and it is a lot better and more accessible than before.”

A Morrisons spokesperson said: "The new Morrisons Daily fresh food convenience store will offer customers a carefully tailored mix of Morrisons own brand products alongside branded favourites.

“As well as new ranges, the store has received a complete redesign internally and externally incorporating Morrisons bright, modern branding.

“Fresh food is at the heart of the store and we hope customers will love it. "

WM Morrison Supermarkets Ltd gained advertisement and listed building consent for the McColl’s store in August.

Morrisons bought the McColls business in 2022 and stores have been converted to the Morrisons Daily brand.
