American-style chicken wing restaurant Top G Wings opens in Mildenhall town centre
A new American-style chicken wing restaurant with eight different flavours has opened its doors to the public in a Suffolk town.
Top G Wings has replaced the former Thai restaurant En-Thai-Sing in Mildenhall, which sits between Costa and the former Wilko store in Saint Andrew’s Street.
Local Mildenhall men Shaz Begg, 42, and Paul Stannard, 45, who are long-time friends, came together as business partners and are now undertaking a new challenge together.
Alongside the new enterprise, Mr Begg owns Gandhi in Mildenhall, which is one of the oldest Indian restaurants in East Anglia under the ownership of one family.
Mr Begg, whose main profession revolves around his own marketing agency, also owns a pizza shop in Harlow.
He said: “It’s really exciting being open now and of course, I absolutely love wings.
“This is another business for me now but it’s a completely different concept which is fun. It should be really good and I’m really looking forward to getting started.
“We’ve still not quite finished with sorting the place as we still have some posters to go up, but I’m excited and relieved too now that we’re open, and the team are all happy.”
On the menu there are chicken wings and strips, burgers, sides, ice creams, milkshakes, as well as other drinks and desserts such as churros and cheesecakes.
Among the eight different flavours on offer are buffalo, honey chilli, garlic parmesan, naga chill, and more, with vegan options also available.
The chicken wing restaurant has undergone renovation since the summer after Mr Begg and Mr Stannard fended off competition from the neighbouring Costa store next door.
Ian Shipp, mayor of Mildenhall, was in attendance to cut the ribbon to honour the opening of Top G Wings.
He said: “It’s fantastic that another empty property has been brought back into use by a local business.
“It’s giving jobs to local people and judging by the big queue already, it will be popular and provide the town with a quality service.”
The shop will be open from 11am to 11pm from Sunday to Thursday and 11am to midnight on Friday and Saturday.
