It produces conversion kits for firearms using precision engineered training ammunition, which allow military and law enforcement professionals to ‘train as they fight’, for the most realistic training possible.

UTM now employs 280 people.

Between 80 and 90 per cent of its products are exported. The largest market is the US but it also exports to Europe, the Middle East, Australia and Asia.

Paul Graham, international sales director, said: “It’s the first time we have applied to the The King’s Awards and, as one of the most prestigious awards there is, we are very proud to have won.

“We are the world’s leading manufacturer of non-lethal ammunition, which is a series of products that allow military and law enforcement agencies to train with firearms in the most realistic way possible.

“We produce conversions kits for some 300 different weapons which we now export worldwide, all manufactured at our base in Mildenhall. The based way I can describe it is like paintball, only in real guns.”

A total of six Suffolk businesses were recognised in The King’s Awards for Enterprise this year.

The recipients of the awards, which celebrate the achievements of leading businesses from across the UK and Channel Islands, were announced this week.
