Mildenhall’s Lark In The Park, in Jubilee Fields, cancelled by town council due to condition of site and reduced interest

A town’s annual fair has been cancelled due to the condition of the site and reduced interest.

Lark In The Park, which was due to take place on August 24 in Jubilee Fields, Mildenhall, will no longer run.

The event was moved from July 13 to the August Bank Holiday due to the venue suffering from extensive flooding and in the hope it would recover in time.

However, town manager Mark Knight said Jubilee Fields had not sufficiently healed and the date move meant vendors dropped out.

He said: “It’s mainly down to the condition of Jubilee Fields – it was underwater for four or five months and the main issue is some groundwater still hasn’t drained away.

“We’re putting everyone’s health and safety first – a scaled down event in the area just didn’t work.

“We’re going to have a fundamental rethink of the event but we just couldn’t deliver the event that we wanted.”

Mr Knight added the town council is hoping to roll over some of the funding into Merry Mildenhall.

The town council is aiming to bring the event back next year.
