Watch: Trapped horse rescued from water-filled ditch in field opposite Tuddenham Mill hotel, near Mildenhall

Watch as firefighters rescue a horse after it was trapped in a water-filled ditch near a village hotel.

The horse owner called the fire service at 2.32pm on June 23 to report that her mare called Cat, who weighed about 700 kilos, was stuck in a ditch in a field opposite the Tuddenham Mill hotel, near Mildenhall.

The ditch was two to three inches deep with steep sides and the horse was standing in shallow water.

During the rescue operation, which lasted about four and a half hours, Cat was given a sedative by the vets to keep her calm.

The mare was successfully rescued fit, well, and without injury.

Fire engines from Newmarket and Mildenhall attended the scene, with a Unimog (an all-terrain vehicle with lifting capability) and a van mobilised from Bury St Edmunds.
