Cambridgeshire County Council's This Land Ltd submits plans to build 100 homes on land at Newmarket Road in Burwell

A county council's development company has submitted plans to build 100 homes on land at Newmarket Road in Burwell.

Cambridgeshire County Council's development company This Land Ltd plans to build the new estate in the village are set to be considered by the parish council at its meeting tonight at 7.30pm.

The scheme includes 25 per cent affordable housing and, if it goes ahead will form the first phase of a 350-home development incorporating a mix of two, three, and four bedroom homes, all of which will have a low carbon footprint and benefit from non-fossil fuel heating.

The plans also include a village green, recreational areas and an extensive network of pedestrian and cycle paths.

However, the plans have already been criticised by residents who have raised objections including the impact on existing village services, increased traffic and loss of wildlife habitat.
