‘Every pupil’s voice is heard’ at top village primary school

A village primary school which has been rated as ‘good’ for 11 years could be upgraded to ‘outstanding’ if a full inspection was carried out now, an Ofsted inspector has said.

Moulton Primary School, which was the top primary school in Suffolk and in the top five nationwide according to government data published last year, underwent a section 8 inspection, carried out four yealy on schools previously rated ‘good’ or ‘outstanding’ to confirm that the rating remains valid.

Inspector Nick Butt said staff made learning fun and did all they could to ensure pupils of all abilities were given the same opportunities to succeed.

“Teachers know their subjects very well,” he said. “They set high standards and pupils come up to their expectations.This is because staff know their needs inside out.”

Describing Moulton as a ‘happy, friendly school’, Mr Butt said pupils went out of their way to be helpful, doing jobs in the library and playground and working outside to encourage wildlife and grow vegetables for the school kitchen.

He said pupils lived out the school’s values of ‘Individuality, Responsibility and Community’ and thrived in a supportive atmosphere where ‘every pupil’s voice was heard’.

Headteacher Deborah Shipp said she was delighted with the outcome.

“The inspector recognised the quality of our curriculum, the excellent teaching and learning, and the positive attitude of pupils," she said.

"One of our favourite lines in the report is ‘there is a lot of laughter in the school’ when referring to staff well-being. I am very lucky to have a wonderful team who do their very best for our pupils."
