Firm nets premier gift for young soccer players kicking footballs made of plastic bags
Young soccer players in Africa who kick about with footballs made of scrunched up plastic bags have been given a premier gift thanks to a Bury St Edmunds company.
Staff at ingredients solutions supplier Treatt’s Earthoil division were dismayed to see children at an orphanage kicking footballs made of tied up plastic bags.
Earthoil staff, who grow and produce tea tree oil in the foothills of Mount Kenya, sought to help.
So keen Liverpool FC fan, Richard Hope, Treatt’s finance director, contacted Liverpool FC’s Academy.
He said: “They very generously sent a large quantity of footballs as well as shirts for the children and Treatt shipped them out to Kenya.
“They were recently officially handed over by Earthoil workers, to the delight of the children at the orphanage, who can now play football properly – and look the part.”
