Man dies in two car crash on A10 near Ely

A man has died in a serious crash on the A10 near Ely.

A man in his 30s, from the Ely area, was airlifted to Addenbrooke's Hospital, Cambridge, with life threatening injuries and was in a serious condition.

Emergency services were called at 6.48am on the stretch of road between the Grange Lane and Ely Leisure Village roundabouts when a Volkswagen Passat and a BMW 320 collided.

The BMW driver, who was in his 50s and from Norfolk, died at the scene.

There were no other injuries as a result of the crash.

Firefighters from Ely, Mildenhall and Downham Market attended the crash and used cutting equipment to free the two men.

The road was closed between the two roundabouts by Cambridgeshire Police for most of the day

A police spokesman said: "Anyone who witnessed the collision or saw either vehicle involved just prior should contact PC Leo Baker on 101 quoting incident 66 of today."
