Mildenhall schoolgirls are a cut above

Two schoolgirls from Mildenhall are donating their hair to the same charity as the Duchess of Cambridge.

Felicity Gilby and Sammy Pfannenstiel, who are both pupils at the town’s St Mary’s Academy, braved a dramatic hair cut so their locks can be made into a wig by the Little Princess Trust to change another little girl’s life.

Sammy’s locks measured 10 inches when chopped and Felicity made a staggering 14 inches donation.

Felicity’s mum, Abigail, said the youngster made the decision after much deliberation.

“Felicity has autism, so change is very difficult for her. She has decided that, despite these difficulties, she wants to help other children in need.”

Sammy’s mum, Marilyn, said her eight-year-old daughter’s inspiration came after the tragic news that a close family friend had been diagnosed with cancer and was currently undergoing the chemotherapy treatment that often causes hair loss.

In addition to their hair donations, the girls have each raised over £300 for the Little Princess Trust.

They had both been sponsored to have their hair cut and yesterday were holding a cake sale at their school.

The Little Princess Trust provides real hair wigs free of charge to children and young adults up to the age of 24 who have lost their hair from cancer or other illnesses.

To date, the trust has been able to give away 6,000 wigs to children in need and earlier this year received a donation of hair from the Duchess of Cambridge.
