Stewart McLeish, 46, of Rous Road, has been jailed again.

A prolific Newmarket thief has been jailed again following a string of shoplifting offences in the town.

Today Stewart McLeish, 46, of Rous Road, pleaded guilty at Ipswich Magistrates' Court and was sentenced to 16 weeks in jail.

He admitted to taking a £69 coffee machine from Waitrose on April 29. stealing a gas stove worth 15.99 from QD Stores on May 26, pocketing two cheese and ham baguettes from Greggs on May 30, and stealing a Gillette razor set valued £25 from Superdrug yesterday.

The sentencing comes just four months after McLeish was jailed for twelve weeks after he had admitted steeling more than £400 worth of goods from town shops in an eight day period in January.

Sgt Steve Duncan of Mildenhall and Brandon Safer neighbourhood Team said: ”McLeish is a prolific shoplifter so to see him receiving this custodial sentence is very gratifying – he was a persistent offender who choose not to change his criminal behaviour. We continue to work with town centre shops and CCTV in the area to reduce the number of shoplifting offences.”
