DJ Brandon Block and Ministry of Sound Classical perform at Newmarket Racecourses’ July Course

Ministry of Sound Classical, Newmarket Racecourses’ July Course, Friday

Ibiza? Or Newmarket?

As Ministry of Sound Classical played at Newmarket Racecourses’ July course last night on a scorcher of a day, we were transported to the Balearics of the 1990s.

A stunning red sun set over the course as favourite dance and trance tracks were performed like I’d never heard them before.

DJ Brandon Block warmed up the crowd, but the show was much more than a DJ set; we were treated to a 30-piece orchestra, five singers and a light show.

And the crowd loved it.

The sound enveloped us as hit after hit flowed seamlessly into each other.

The set list included Darude's 'Sandstorm', ‘Dreamer’ by Livin' Joy, ‘Right Here, Right Now’ by Fatboy Slim, ‘Bring It Back’ by Moloko, ‘Lola's Theme’ by The Shapeshifters, Café del Mar, Chicane. The list goes on.

Some songs got the biggest reactions: Robert Miles’ ‘Children’ crescendoed as the last of the light left the sky, and the audience cheered.

‘Everybody's Free (To Feel Good)’ by Rozalla was another crowd pleaser, sung by an amazing singer with such a powerful voice.

As Delerium’s ‘Silence’ came to an end, the conductor told us to ‘join us on this journey of trance, the one and only Eric Prydz’.

The sound wrapped itself around you and you become absorbed in it. Everyone was dancing, lost in the music.

Faithless’ ‘Insomnia’ near the end of the gig received a huge response from the crowd, and the night ended with ‘We Found Love’ by Rihanna featuring Calvin Harris and ‘One More Time’ by Daft Punk.

All in all, it was an incredible night of music – a delight for the ears and soul – after a fabulous evening of racing.

Newmarket Nights continue on Friday, June 27, with Richard Ashcroft.
