Rachel Hood was elected to serve her second term as mayor or Newmarket at the annual meeting of the town council on Tuesday.
Cllr Hood, who last wore the chain of office in 2014/15 was elected with a clear majority over the only other candidate for the role, Cllr Mick Jefferys.
Cllr James Lay, a relative newcomer to the council, was elected deputy mayor.
"I want to thank the councillors for putting their trust in me and I will do everything I can for the town," said Cllr
Hood.
And she paid tribute to outgoing mayor Cllr Andy Drummond who she said had worked tirelessly over the past two years.
