Newmarket’s sausage festival is back with a banger
The Newmarket Sausage Festival is back on Saturday, after its successful launch last year, hosted by Discover Newmarket and West Suffolk Council.
And in the run up to the main event, local cafes and restaurants have been adding sausage-themed dishes to their main menus so visitors will be able to follow a sausage safari sampling the much-loved Suffolk speciality.
The festival will take place from 10am to 2pm at Newmarket’s market square alongside the regular Newmarket Saturday market. There will be a selection of sausage-themed stalls offering warm food and drinks, recipe ideas to take home and free samples from award-winning suppliers. The popular children’s sausage pan race will be under the starter’s orders of the festival’s favourite character, Mr Sausage.
And courtesy of the chefs at the Heath Court Hotel, visitors will have the opportunity to sample a sausage casserole and take home a recipe card to recreate the dish at home. All the ingredients will be available to purchase from the market and there will be 10 bags of ingredients up for grabs in the free tombola.
Cllr Indy Wijenayaka, the council’s cabinet member for growth, said: “We are delighted to partner with Discover Newmarket to welcome back this festival after last year’s success. It is a great addition to our events calendar as it offers family fun and entertainment, plus it drives support for our loyal traders on the weekly Saturday market that will also be operating.”
The festival supported by town butchers Powters, Musks, and Tennants, is being sponsored by Edmondson Hall solicitors.
