Councillors are set to approve plans to build a massive 100,000 sq ft warehouse just outside Newmarket on Wednesday.

East Cambridgeshire District Council’s planning officers have recommended the authority pass Turners’ proposals to construct a 72ft tall frozen goods warehouse at its Fordham Road headquarters.

Its plans include building a replacement lorry park, drainage tanks, and a bund across its northern boundary.

Once built the company said it would need more staff at the depot, creating 18 new jobs for the area.

If approved, the developer will hand the district authority £15,000 towards bus stop and pedestrian improvements for Newmarket Road as part of its legally required obligations.

It must also only use the new facility to store frozen goods.

In documents to be discussed next week, the district authority said the new build would not have a significant impact on either the transport network or the visual character of the area and the highways officer has not objected to the proposal.

And Fordham Parish Council has also not objected to the plans. Ward councillors Joshua Schumann and Julia Huffer did not comment on the application.

From the approval date, the Turners will have to start the project within two years or its permission will be revoked.
