Fish and chips - it's the traditional meal that we Brits can't get enough of.

According to the National Federation of Fish Friers, British consumers eat some 382 million meals from fish and chip shops every year.

So, with today marking National Fish and Chip Day, we tasked Suffolk News readers with helping us to find the best chippy in the county and many got in touch over social media to nominate their favourites.

Having reviewed all the entries, we now bring you the 20 shortlisted fish shops which were put forward as the very best Suffolk has to offer.

And now it is over to you to have the final say in our poll below.

Newmarket's Valley Way Fish and Chip Shop got a lot of love when we posed the question on social media, with Jonny Payne describing it as the 'best chippy for miles'.

The Regal Fish Bar in Felixstowe was also one of those nominated - Carole Clark hailed them as the 'best ever'.

Readers also showed their appreciation for a number of shops in Bury St Edmunds including Peyton Plaice, which has shops in Barton Road and St Olaves Road, Lake Avenue Fish Bar and West End Fish and Chips.

Others gave shoutouts to Chippy's in Haverhill, Smart Fish Bar in Haverhill, Aldeburgh Fish and Chip Shop, Our Plaice in Ipswich, Mrs T's Fish and Chips in Southwold, and Mildenhall Fish and Chips.

If your favourite is not included in the poll, let us know in the comments!
