Mildenhall Town beat Maldon & Tiptree in Isthmian League North Division thanks to Samuel Adetiba’s late goal
After four straight draws, Mildenhall Town picked up an important three points in the Pitching Isthmian League North Division on Tuesday night.
Substitute Samuel Adetiba’s 82nd-minute goal proved to be the difference at The Riverside Stadium as Phil Weavers’ side beat visiting Maldon & Tiptree 1-0.
The run of draws had kept 16th-placed Mildenhall looking nervously over their shoulder at the relegation zone, but the midweek victory has moved them six points clear of danger heading into Saturday’s trip to Haringey Borough (3pm).
Weavers said: “You can’t get away from where we are in the table, whether it’s right or wrong that we’re there.
“It’s about learning lessons in this league. We’ve spoken about the evolution of this team and trying to establish ourselves at this level and sometimes it’s just fine margins.
“The four draws tells you what we’re about. We’re obviously hard to beat and our defensive record is very good – it has been for the last two or three seasons.
“I’ve been quoted as saying – if we went down we’d be the best team to go down. We play some lovely stuff and create some great chances.
“It’s very difficult to fault the lads because the work-rate they put in his phenomenal.
“It’s been about that cutting edge, that’s what we’ve been missing so it was important to get that goal.
“We do feel that the league position is a bit false. When teams are down there it’s often a fractious dressing room but that couldn’t be further from the truth for us.
“The lads are so united, we’re pulling in the same direction and it’s games like tonight where we’ve been rewarded.”
Mildenhall have added Alex Brown (Ely City) and Tom Thulborn (Bury Town) to their ranks this week, while Tanner Call has also returned to the club after stepping away from football at the end of last season.
