‘Big month’ for Soham starts against Witham on Saturday while Mildenhall Town and Ely City suffer Thurlow Nunn League defeats
Robbie Mason is bracing himself for ‘a big month ahead’ for his Soham Town Rangers side in the BetVictor Isthmian League North Division.
The Greens snapped a four-game losing streak in all competitions on Saturday, as Matt Allan’s 71st-minute strike earned Mason’s side a 1-1 draw away at promotion hopefuls Coggeshall Town.
Soham, who were due to visit Whittlesey Athletic in the Cambridgeshire Invitation Cup last night, sit 14th in the North Division table as they begin a run of three games against bottom five sides.
After hosting Witham Town (16th) this Saturday (3pm), the Greens then travel to Brentwood Town (19th) and entertain Basildon United (18th) over the next two weekends, a run of games which boss Mason knows the importance of.
“We’ve got a big month ahead,” Mason said. “We’ve got Witham, Brentwood and Basildon, and then Bury on Boxing Day after that.
“We want to get some points on the board before the Bury game, starting with this weekend. These are the teams we should be beating, so there’s big pressure on us.
“We need to make sure our work ethic earns us the right to play to win.
“It’s a big run of games for us, in terms of getting some points to put us where we wanted to be at Christmas.
“Getting in that top 10 is achievable and this weekend is big for us, with the other games going on involving teams around us.”
Lee Chaffey is an injury doubt for this weekend, while Alfie Connor, who went off injured against Aveley two weeks ago, could return.
* Mildenhall Town dropped one place to 15th in the Thurlow Nunn League Premier Division table after a 2-1 defeat at league leaders Stowmarket Town at the weekend.
Ollie Canfer equalised for the Hall from the penalty spot early in the second half, but Stow regained their lead just before the hour mark.
* Ely City (18th) slipped to a third defeat in a row after losing 2-0 at Wroxham. The Robins host bottom side Hadleigh United, while Mildenhall entertain Walsham-le-Willows this Saturday (both 3pm).
