Young Cambridge United striker Sam Bennett joins Bostik League North Division side Mildenhall Town on loan
Mildenhall Town manager Ricky Cornish has boosted his attacking options with the signing of Cambridge United's highly-rated striker Sam Bennett on a one-month work experience loan deal.
Bennett is Cambridge Under-18s' leading goalscorer this term, with his double-figure tally including hat-tricks in victories against Luton Town and MK Dons.
His three-goal haul against the latter of those two sides included an overhead kick – an effort which saw the 18-year-old make November's shortlist for the League Football Education Goal of the Month award.
However, the 18-year-old will now continue his development in the Bostik League North Division with Mildenhall, who picked up their first victory since Cornish took charge on Saturday thanks to a 2-0 win over Witham Town.
Cornish said: "I am very happy to have Sam with us. He is quick, mobile and has a real eye for goal. He is full of confidence after scoring plenty of goals already this season and it gives us another option up front."
Bennett. who has been on Cambridge's books since the age of six, also scored for the young U's during their FA Youth Cup triumph at the expense of AFC Sudbury last October.
He is set to be in the Mildenhall squad for Saturday's trip to play-off hunting Maldon & Tiptree (3pm).
