Newmarket trainer George Boughey confirms purchase of Craven House Stables on Hamilton Road

George Boughey has confirmed the purchase of Craven House Stables in Newmarket.

The Hamilton Road facility, which has 94 stables and has served as a pre-training base for Godolphin since 2005, marks the start of a fresh chapter for one of the country’s most successful young trainers.

“Saffron House was fantastic for us. We trained just over 480 winners from there,” said Boughey, who saddled the winner of the QIPCO 1,000 Guineas, Cachet, in 2022.

“It was just – not restricting us – but it was a little bit cramped towards the end. It did a fantastic job for us. It’s always been a very healthy and lucky yard.

“But we saw this as a good opportunity and hopefully we can make it lucky.

“My life is incredibly different now to what it was – it’s what I’ve always wanted to do. I wouldn’t change anything that’s happened.

“Being able to buy a yard through what we’ve done to try to take us to the next step is incredibly satisfying, obviously for me, but I got all my staff together on Saturday morning and told them before it was released.

“There was a round of applause from everyone and it was quite spine-tingling to see what it’s done for them.

“I’ve got guys who have been with me from the start that worked with me when I was at Hugo’s (Palmer, in his role as assistant trainer).”

Royal Ascot-winning handler Boughey has also confirmed that 18-year-old Billy Loughnane will be his new yard’s first choice jockey for the 2025 season.
