Former Walsham-le-Willows captain Jack Brame marks Soham Town Rangers debut with a goal in big victory at Stowmarket Town

Jack Brame marked his first appearance in a Soham Town Rangers shirt with a goal during yesterday’s 5-0 victory at Stowmarket Town.

The Greens announced that they had signed the striker half an hour before kick off at Greens Meadow.

For Brame, the move marked a swift return to football following his recent departure from fellow Thurlow Nunn League Premier Division outfit Walsham-le-Willows.

And the former Bury Town, Mildenhall Town and Thetford Town frontman took less than 10 minutes to open his account on debut when he found the net with a header as a second-half substitute.

Soham manager Alex Cross wrote on X: “Happy to welcome Jack to the club. I felt as though it was a good fit and good timing with his departure from Walsham so we acted quickly and I’m pleased to see Jack sign.

“He will add competition to our top line and will fit into our way of playing.”

Brame, who entered the action just after the hour mark, made it 4-0 to Soham following an earlier brace from Ted Johnson and a goal scored by Ryan Sharman – the player that made way for his introduction off the bench.

Meanwhile, the scoring was completed in the closing stages by Hayden Lambert’s individual effort.

Cross told the club’s YouTube channel: “Of course you’re happy when you win 5-0 and you keep a clean sheet.

“First half we weren’t quite at the races but from a defensive perspective we were really resolute.

“There was five really good goals and it could and should have been more.

“We addressed a few things at half-time and I thought we were able to secure the ball a bit better. We got in one-on-one situations and that enabled us to come out with the win.”

Soham, who are 11th in the Premier Division, will return to action on Tuesday in the League Challenge Cup at home against neighbouring Ely City.

Fifteenth-placed Stowmarket, meanwhile, will aim to halt an eight-game winless run in all competitions on the same night when they entertain lower-league Whitton United (both 7.45pm).
