Burwell & Exning have withdrawn their first team from the East Anglian Premier League (EAPL).

In a statement released by the league this morning, it stated that the Cambridgeshire club had taken the decision after a number of the previous campaign's senior squad opted to move on.

It read: "The East Anglian Premier League has been informed by Burwell & Exning CC that due to a substantial number of last season’s first team squad leaving the club and they have been unable to attract replacements, they have had no alternative but to take the decision to withdraw their 1st X1 from the League for the 2022 season."

"The management committee will now consider various options and will issue a further statement within the next 10 days."

Burwell & Exning, who were formed following the merger of the two clubs in 2018, finished bottom of the EAPL last term.

However, they were spared relegation due to the fact Cambridge were demoted after they had been unable to meet certain criteria required to be an EAPL club.
