Duo score centuries in draw

Despite centuries from Andrew Bramley and Tryon Koen, Burwell & Exning (324-6) could only claim a draw from their home encounter with Frinton-one-Sea (263-8) on Saturday.

Bramley hit 102 runs as Burwell & Exning batted first, while overseas player Koen was unbeaten on 111.

Jamie Seabrook also provided a useful 53-run contribution – four fours and three sixes – as the hosts finished on six wickets down at the 64-over mark.

Burwell & Exning’s defence got off to a positive start and they looked to be on course for a routine victory when they reduced Frinton to 61-5.

However, the away side’s Michael Comber (69), Pulina Tharanga (36) and Mervyn Westfield ( 92 not out) dug their heels in thereafter, frustrating the fielding side who ultimately had to settle for a draw as the final two wickets they needed for victory eluded them.

Burwell & Exning currently occupy sixth place in the table, just one adrift of neighbouring Mildenhall in fifth.

On Saturday they have a tough assignment on their hands with a trip to leaders and defending champions Sudbury (11am).

The Suffolk side hold a 47-point lead over Swardeston at the summit.
