Newmarket Cricket Club keen to launch ladies and junior section

Following confirmation of the upcoming 2021 fixtures for their Saturday and Sunday teams, Newmarket Cricket Club has switched its focus to the launch of a ladies and junior section.

The re-formed club, which will be based on The Severals, is hopeful of being able to provide some taster sessions for those interested over the course of this summer.

Their aim is to provide players with the best possible platform to play the sport in the town - something that has not been possible since 2017, when the club folded.

Frank Stennett, who spearheaded the consortium that campaigned for the return of cricket to Newmarket, said: “Many cricket clubs provide ladies cricket. As a new club we want to follow that blueprint and successfully create a welcoming environment where girls can play and socialise.”

“Whether you have played before or never picked up a bat or ball, we have the coaches in place to make sessions fun and enjoyable.

“We would love to hear from you and together we can help build ladies cricket in Newmarket.”

“And all young players from ages seven through to 19, Newmarket is looking to create a junior section that will provide a fun environment for young people of all abilities to learn and enjoy the game of cricket.

“A key aim is help every member of the youth programme develop into the best player they can be.”
