Newmarket Town midfielder Jack Watson leaves to join Cambridge University Press

Captain Jack Watson has confirmed his departure from Newmarket Town.

The midfielder joined the Jockeys from Godmanchester Rovers ahead of the 2016/17 campaign getting under way.

During his time at the Tristel Stadium, Watson has racked almost 180 appearances in a Newmarket shirt, scoring 37 goals.

However, he has now decided to drop down a couple of leagues to play for Kershaw Premier Division outfit Cambridge University Press.

Watson wrote on Twitter: "Thank you for everything @NewmarketTownFC. What a time I’ve had. I can’t thank you all enough. Looking forward to coming back and watching."

Newmarket begin their pre-season friendlies on Saturday with the visit of National League South outfit Braintree Town (3pm).
