Champions win yet again

Marshall Hatchick Two Counties Championship Division One champions Worlington (245-5) showed no signs of letting up on Saturday as they recorded a five-wicket win at Halstead (241-9).

Worlington, who clinched the title the previous weekend, were without the likes of James Watson, Craig Estlea and Charlie Tunstall for the trip to Essex,

However, it did not impact on the team, who restricted their hosts to 241-9 from their 45 overs.

Nuwan Jayasena was the pick of the Worlington bowlers, ending his stint with figures of 3-51.

Opener Graham Ford led the Worlington reply with the bat, scoring an unbeaten 119 runs from 122 deliveries.

Ford was well supported by Ziaf Kulasi (56) and Mark Nunn (45), while Matthew Wittish (8 not out) was alongside him at the crease when the winning runs were struck.

It sealed Worlington’s 16th Division One triumph of the year ahead of their season-ending trip to bottom-of-the-table Elmstead on Saturday (12.30pm).

Worlington will be back in action on Sunday in the semi-finals of the Gibbs Denley East Anglian Premier League play-offs.

Their opponents are not currently known, with three teams still able to win the Cambridgeshire & Huntingdonshire Premier League Whiting & Partners Division One title on Saturday.

It is Sawston & Babraham, Saffron Walden and Eaton Socon that are locked in a three-way battle for top honours.
