The competition had looked like it would not go ahead this year.

The now-annual event had been originally planned for the early May Bank Holiday, but did not enough interest at the time from outside clubs.

However, it was rearranged for earlier this month, with Chippenham one of the clubs showing an interest alongside teams from Bury St Edmunds, Helions Bumpstead and West Bergholt.

And Chippenham took the overall honours after every side had played four round-robin matches, winning both of the leagues.

The Under-8s team went undefeated throughout the tournament, while the Unders-9s won three of their matches.

The youngsters received their prizes from Sudbury’s overseas professional player, Tim Johnston.

l On Saturday, for the senior side, opener Ollie Rix hit an unbeaten 58 as Chippenham (149-1) recorded a nine-wicket victory at home against

Cambridge St Giles (147).

Earlier, Sean Ward had been particularly impressive with the ball in hand, recording figures of 4-13 from his eight overs, which included three maidens.

Chippenham are fifth in the CCA Junior League 1 South.
