Brett Claydon beaten by Danny Baggish in opening round of the UK Open
It was not to be for Soham darting ace Brett Claydon on his television debut at the Ladbrokes UK Open this afternoon.
Claydon, who last month secured himself a PDC Tour Card for the first time ever, was unable to get the better of Danny Baggish, eventually going down 6-3 in Milton Keynes to fall at the first hurdle of the year's first major.
After trailing for much of the opening leg, Claydon, who threw first, missed double 20 for a 157 but returned to take out 20 for a 1-0 lead.
The encounter's key leg proved to be the sixth when – leading 3-2 – Claydon was unable to take either of his two opportunities at double four.
And in the the very next leg Baggish made his move as he made the most of Claydon's struggles to find the treble, throwing the match's first 180 on his way to a 14-dart break for a 4-3 advantage.
From that moment onwards the American didn't look back, putting together a four-leg winning streak to seal his progress into the second round.
