Frankie Dettori scoops Jockey of the Month award for June

Frankie Dettori has been named Great British Racing's Jockey of the Month for June after another memorable week at Royal Ascot.

The 49-year-old scoops the prize after receiving 44 per cent of the vote, ahead of fellow nominees Jim Crowley (30 per cent) and Oisin Murphy (26 per cent), who also enjoyed impressive starts to the 2020 Flat Jockeys’ Championship which began on Monday, June 1.

The three-time Champion Jockey recorded six winners at the Royal Meeting to win the top rider of the week prize for the second consecutive year.

On being named Jockey of the Month, Stetchworth-based Dettori said: “I’m delighted to have been voted as Jockey of the Month. June was a fantastic month for me with Royal Ascot being the pinnacle - especially winning a third gold cup with Stradivarius which was amazing and a special moment for me. Thank you to everyone who voted for me.”

Dettori stole the show on the final day of Royal Ascot with a tremendous treble – winning the Queen Mary Stakes aboard Campanelle, Palace Pier securing the St James’s Palace Stakes and Alpine Star winning the Coronation Stakes – the latter two races forming part of the 2020 QIPCO British Champions Series.

This followed wins earlier in the week with Fanny Logan in the Hardwicke Stakes which resulted in Dettori’s 70th Royal Ascot win of his career, the Ribblesdale Stakes aboard Frankly Darling, and a third successive Gold Cup with Stradivarius.

In winning the competition, Dettori was awarded £1,000 and a £500 charity donation of his choice. He has selected the Direct Aid for Africa (DAFA)as his chosen charity.
