Ever-present Luke Turner scored a characteristic try after the ball was shipped wide to get the hosts off to a positive start.

Joel Scott Paul added another converted try of a similar vein just moments later as Ely took control.

The opposition kicked off and the Tigers made their way into the opposition half. Mitchell Kennett broke through and offloaded to Jacob Muncey, who dotted down for a converted try.

And before the end of the half, Scott Macfarlane rounded off the scoring with a pick and drive from the back of a ruck, with Scott Paul adding the arrears.

Charlie Coupland got Ely’s next score – in the second half – after man-of-the-match Alex Milne had chipped the ball and caught it on the bounce, before Crusaders rallied well to make it over the line once in the game.

However, Ely added the finishing blow when Matt McCarthy touched down in the corner to round off their resounding victory.

Ely return to action on Saturday when they travel over the Norfolk border to take on their Thetford counterparts, who currently occupy third position (3pm).

Thetford have won two of their opening three matches, picking up a total of nine points along the way.
